Welcome to USS Colorado (SSN-788) Commissioning Committee web site. USS Colorado (SSN-788) is the 15th Virginia Class submarine. She was delivered to the Navy on September 21, 2017. Having completed shakedown operations, she was commissioned on March 17, 2018 at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, CT. The Committee's purposes are to promote awareness within the state, provide support for the crew, and to help organize and raise money for the events surrounding commissioning.
April 22, 2014 – Yesterday the State Legislature completed work on the USS Colorado (SSN 788) License Plate Bill. The bill passed the House yesterday with a minor change to the Appropriation section on a 55-7, with 3 excused, vote. The Senate concurred with the House change and re-adopted the bill on a 33-2 vote, picking up 1 vote from the original Senate vote. A signing ceremony is being arranged with the Governor’s Office.
March 25, 2014. Today final approval was received granting the USS Colorado (SSN 788) Committee tax exempt status. This means that contributions received by the committee are deductible by the donor as provided for in section 170 of the IRS Code.
March 21, 2104. On Friday, March 21st, the USS Colorado License Plate Bill took another step forward when it passed the Colorado House Finance Committee by a unanimous vote of 11-0. The bill needs to pass one more committee, the House Appropriations Committee, before going to a final vote by the entire House. From there it is on to the Governor for his signature.
The license plate should be available for sale early next year.
March 6, 2014. The USS Colorado License Plate bill passed another milestone yesterday when it was approved by the State House Transportation and Energy Committee with a vote of 11 – 0. From there it goes to the House Finance Committee. We had seven members of the Committee and about the same from the US Submarine Veterans Rocky Mountain Base to lend support at the Committee hearing. Representatives Gardner and Swalm joined in sponsoring the Bill with Senator Herpin. Many thanks to them for their support.
