Welcome to USS Colorado (SSN-788) Commissioning Committee web site. USS Colorado (SSN-788) is the 15th Virginia Class submarine. She was delivered to the Navy on September 21, 2017. Having completed shakedown operations, she was commissioned on March 17, 2018 at Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, CT. The Committee's purposes are to promote awareness within the state, provide support for the crew, and to help organize and raise money for the events surrounding commissioning.

It has recently been brought to our attention that some Junior Division entries have been returned by the Post Office as an “unknown address”. While we are investigating this with the Post Office, I suspect It is due to addressing this to the Design Contest instead of the Committee. Therefore any Junior Division entries should be mailed to:

CDR Ken Franklin, Commanding Officer PCU Colorado, was interviewed yesterday by Steffan Tubbs on KOA 850 radio . In the interview, which was rebroadcast several times during the day, he talked about ship’s construction, crew manning, upcoming Keel Laying Ceremony and Ship’s Crest Contest.

Deadline for submission of entries for the USS Colorado Ship’s Crest Design Contest has been extended by about two weeks until midnight March 16th. We are extending the deadline in order to allow more time for our public relations efforts take effect.

On January 2nd the USS Colorado License Plate went on sale at all Department of Motor Vehicles offices in the state. State Senator Bernie Herpin, sponsor of the license plate bill, was the first person in the state to get one. Since the plate is a “Print on Demand” type, you will receive a temporary tag at the DMV and the final plate will arrive in your mail about two weeks later.
